I’m not sure about you, but I really didn’t know where to start when it came to writing my wedding speech. All the groom speeches that I had heard were so different. There were a few that I had seen that were very good, but many more were flat out terrible. And there are a few that I cannot even remember. Some were so long and quite boring, while others were very entertaining.
I wanted my grooms speech to be remembered as one of the better ones.
Where to Start
Trying to come up with a good groom wedding speech that your friends, guests and family will enjoy, and hopefully remember, can be hard if you don’t know where to start.
The best place to start is to take notes as far out from you wedding day as you can. Note down things that you think people would like to hear as you think about them. That way when it comes to putting pen to paper to start writing your grooms speech, you should have listed all the things that you could say.
Use a Template
Writing a wedding speech, or any speech for that matter is an extremely hard job if you don’t know what order to say things. Having a template to work from allows you to frame your speech around a successful format and simply insert your information. I found a good template that gave me heaps of tips and hints along the way.
Who to Thank
Remember groom speeches are all about thanking people. Sure you have to entertain everyone with stories and a joke or two, but the “thanks” are what it’s all about. Even though I did not want to thank all the people I did, I made sure I didn’t miss anyone. I think I must have thanked everyone I ever met in my life.
Be sure to thank your new wife. She is the most important person on the day. Miss that thanks and things will not get off to a good start. It’s probably best to tell a story about a particularly memorable event involving your new wife. Be sure to thank your family and the family of your bride. You will definitely want to thank all the members of the bridal party. You will need to thank your best man, as he is your right hand man on the day. It’s always a good idea to make reference to the best man’s speech.
Using Humor in Your Grooms Speech
Funny wedding speeches are usually popular if they are done properly. A few good jokes scattered throughout the groom wedding speech can be entertaining. Remember that it is not meant to be a comedy show, so don’t go over the top. A good wedding template should give you some idea when is the best time to make it funny.
Restrict Alcohol Consumption
I can remember many wedding speeches that have been embarrassing due to the amount of alcohol consumed prior to speaking. If you don’t want to be remembered for the wrong reasons on your wedding day, so it’s best to limit the drinks before your grooms speech.
Although it might sound a bit of a challenge right now, but plan it properly and your speech will be a success. Groom speeches can be a lot of fun and something to remember with the right preparation. Remember that there is help available. Groom Wedding Speeches helped me to present a memorable wedding speech that I was proud of.
